Křivoklát

The royal castle of Křivoklát grew on the site of an older hunting fort in the second half of the 13th century. It was a favourite place of the sovereigns, Przemysl Otakar II and Wenceslas IV. In later times, it was used as a prison. An architectural point of interest is the second largest Gothic hall in the Republic, second only to the Vladislav Hall in Prague. The Křivoklát region is a nature reserve with a number of educational trails, including water trails along the Berounka River.
